Supporting a Longtime Member

Please help us support the Race for Hope at the Philadelphia Museum of Art on November 4, 2012, benefitting the National Brain Tumor Society in memory of one of RiverWinds Community Center's longtime members who lost his battle with this disease earlier this year.

Check out the link below to register as a walker or runner, and feel free to join Run for Rick in honor of our former resident.  http://www.braintumorcommunity.org/site/TR/Events/RFH-PA?px=3039236&pg=personal&fr_id=1910

October Updates...

Happy Week 6! Remember, Session 5 has seven weeks, so you have all of this week and next week before we tear into Session 6.

Lots of stuff on the calendar this week: the Kids' Craft Workshop will be Tuesday the 16th at 6:30 p.m., where your 6-11 year old can make Scratch Art. The October Discover SCUBA class will be Thursday the 18th at 6:30 p.m., and this month's Parents' Night Out returns Friday at 6:30 p.m. Call 856-251-0990 to sign up yourself or your child!

Have you been loving the scarecrows on RiverWinds Drive? We have! Thanks to a joint effort by the West Deptford Free Public Library and the West Deptford Historical Association, our township civic organizations, businesses, and families have been sprucing up the 1.3 miles to the Community Center, and the efforts are awesome! There's still time to make your own scarecrow, too...just contact the library to sign up. This beaut is courtesty of the West Deptford Junior Women's Club.

Make sure Spookypalooza is on your calendar for 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, October 30th. And don't forget the Holiday Party, as well, scheduled for Friday, December 14th!

Just a heads up, our RiverWinds blog will be taking a bit of a hiatus thru the end of the year. Occasional postings may be made but we look forward to starting up again in the new year fresh and raring to go!

A few reminders...

We're still looking for motivated, creative college upperclassmen to apply for our 2013 Spring internship. Contact Mandee Casey at 856.251.0990 x105 or email KernM@RiverWinds.org for details or to apply. An incredible opportunity awaits the right individual, as does FREE facility membership for the duration of the semester!

We're still accepting a limited number of non-resident memberships! Did you know residents in good standing can sponsor a new family? Check out www.RiverWinds.org for details!

As ever, we look forward to seeing you and yours at the facility!

It's October Already!

Seriously, where does the time go? It's already Week 5 of Session 5. Don't forget, there are seven weeks to this Ssession, so there's still some time to go. But what a Session we've been having!

Our kiddies started out the fall with a bang with Kids' Fitness and Fun and several cooking and craft classes. Who says there's new school year fatigue? We haven't seen a bit of it...these kids are raring to go!

Not to be outdone, the grown-ups have stayed busy since the start of the new school year, with great attendance in Discover SCUBA, the jewelry making workshop, pottery class, oil painting course, and of course, the Italian Festival! We're looking forward to the next few weeks as we start our October Open Water SCUBA certification, host a new kids craft on the 16th, and Parents' Night Out on the 19th!

Naturally, we can't overlook SPOOKYPALOOZA, which is slated to return on the 30th. Every year we get bigger and better and 2012 is already shaping up to be no exception, so get your costumes ready to show off and bring the family! Don't forget, West Deptford Township has an 8:00 p.m. curfew on the 30th and 31st, so make sure you're getting the most out of your evening here at the 'Winds!

We're thrilled to announce that we'll be getting new carpeting throughout the facility in the coming months, so keep an eye out for updates regarding scheduls for our new digs.

Unfortunately, the fireworks scheduled for West Deptford Day that were rained out will NOT be rescheduled this year. We're crossing our fingers that Mother Nature is better behaved next fall!

Are you loving the scarecrows on RiverWinds Drive? Us, too! Your civic organization, scout troop, business, or organization can make your own, too! Simply contact the West Deptford Free Public Library for a form and help make that 1.3 mile drive a little more festively fall!

We're still accepting a limited number of non-resident memberships! Did you know residents in good standing can sponsor a new family? Check out www.RiverWinds.org for details!

As ever, we look forward to seeing you and yours at the facility!

FALLing Into a New Session!

It’s Session 5!

School has started, the gridiron is packed, and we finally got a break from that humidity. Fall has arrived, and with it, Session 5 programming.

We have the new program book online at www.RiverWinds.org, packed with exciting new and favorite classic activities for the entire family.

We’re pleased to announce the return of Melissa to Tuesday night 6:30 p.m. spinning! Her maternity leave is over and she’s bursting to get back in the studio – and kick everyone into shape!

Our Swim Lesson schedule is also posted and we are accepting registrations. They begin on Monday the 17th. If you’re not sure what level your child fits in to, call Cristin at 856-251-0990 x104.

We also are excited to announce the new Unlimited Child Care Pass available to members! This 30-day unlimited pass is $25 per child and is ideal for those who utilize the Child Care area regularly. This Unlimited Pass is a third option, on top of the hourly rate, best for those who are trying Child Care for the first time or for those coming and going with no set schedule, and the $30 Child Care Pass, which is best for those who don’t carry cash on them and/or don’t use the Child Care enough to warrant the purchase of an Unlimited Pass. Not sure which is right for you? Call Debbie at 856-251-0990 x106!

The Italian Heritage Festival will be at RiverWinds on Sunday the 30th from noon until 6:00 p.m., featuring exhibitors, Italian food, kids’ activities, craft vendors, and more! Call 856-467-0096 with questions.

Don’t forget, we’re still looking for motivated, creative interns in our fitness and administration departments! Email Mandee Casey at KernM@RiverWinds.org or check out the website for specifics…it’s tremendous training in so many fields, and that free facility membership during your tenure with us is quite a perk!

And finally, there are still a few non-resident memberships available, and members in good standing can sponsor individuals and families from outside West Deptford to join for the year! Don’t miss out – take advantage of this extraordinary opportunity while there’s still time!

We look forward to seeing everyone return from vacations and summer activities as we fall back into our school year routines.

See you at the facility!

Back to School!

Even though the official start to autumn isn't for another two weeks, the day after Labor Day starts the unofficial back to school season, and the gang at RiverWinds is busy getting everything ready to make your transition back to pencils and books an easy one!

The Aquatic Facility has new fall hours, available online. Look for extended lunchtime hours in the lap pool! We've recently reopened after a week of annual maintenance, and the place looks pretty fantastic, if we do say so ourselves! Stop on by and see for yourself.

The Session 5 book is getting it's final touches put on and should also be online by mid-week, so keep an eye out for all your favorite classes. Sneak peeks are available now under the Aquatics and Fitness tabs so you can start making your sweat schedule early.

The Super Class Pass has dropped to an obscene $40...that's right, all the land and water classes you can take from now until the end of December for only $40. Get yours at the front desk during regular business hours!

We're running some great promotions, too, like the Fall Back into Fitness Incentive Program on the Fitness Floor, and a FREE ZUMBA Tone class on Saturday the 8th at 9:35 a.m.

The entire 2013 SCUBA calendar is online. Have yout checked out the opportunities for Discover and Open Water Certifications?

Township calendars are available at the Front Desk, as well. Stop in to get the 411 on all your local comings-and-goings.

If you follow the West Deptford Patch, RiverWinds programs are also posted on that calendar, as well as on our various social media portals. We're committed to keeping you abreast of all our programs and activities! If you'd like to see us elsewhere in the real or virtual worlds, give us a shout at 856-251-0990.

Don't forget, this Saturday is West Deptford Day on our grounds starting at 10:00 a.m. Not only is this a great time to show off your facility to friends and neighbors, you can also get connected to the other fantastic civic organizations at your disposal, like the West Deptford Police, EMS, Library, Historical Association, Junior Women's Club, scouts, athletic teams, and more. Don't miss out on what promises to be a fantastic day for the entire family!

We look forward to seeing you at the facility, your place for family, fun, and fitness!

Prepping for the Fall Season!

It's Session 4, Week 7, with a couple more weeks to go before we're officially in the Fall!

We've been enjoying this wonderful August and hoping for another mild year ahead (does anyone remember snow drifts?). As we look to close out Summer '12, we're readying a full Autumn season for you and your family.

So far this month, we've had some tremendously successful TRX Workshops on our Fitness Floor. TRX, as taken from their website TRXTraining.com, is the original, best-in-class workout system that leverages gravity and your bodyweight to perform hundreds of exercises. You're in control of how much you want to challenge yourself on each exercise - because you can simply adjust your body position to add or decrease resistance. The TRX Suspension Trainer delivers a fast, effective total-body workout, helps build a rock-solid core, increases muscular endurance, and benefits people of all fitness levels (pro athletes to seniors). By utilizing your own bodyweight, the TRX Suspension Trainer provides greater performance and functionality than large exercise machines costing thousands of dollars. TRX is used by personal trainers, professional athletes, and the United States Military, and it's available to our members and residents! The demonstrations adminstered by our fitness staff have made this amazing workout accessible and have invigorated workouts for newbies and veterans to our facility!

Concerts have been great when the weather has held up. Unfortunately, we did lose a couple to rain and threats of severe weather in the area, but when they're on, wow, do our members, residents, and guests come out in droves! We have two more on the schedule for this year, including Separate Ways, the Journey Tribute Band on August 24th, and Beatlemania Again on August 31st. Don't miss our close out bands!

August 15th was HUGE around RiverWinds. National Night Out, originally scheduled for August 1st, was rescheduled to the 15th after another wash out, and was piggybacked up against Big Screen Movie Night. Throw in our annual Ice Cream Social, and you have one amazing night for the entire family. We got some amazing pictures of West Deptford's finest liaising with participants, as well as the super popular K9 demonstration, face painting, snacking, and more...and that was all in preparation for The Smurfs playing in the amphitheatre. It was an awesome night and we're already looking forward to next year.

Discover SCUBA ran again this month, where non-members were additionally welcomed to get their feet wet and try out this incredible adventure sport without committing to the entire Open Water Cert...even though most people do - AND receive a great discount on check out dives! We're always holding Discover in the Lap Pool on the third Thursday of every month. Why not give it a try?

We still have a few things going on this month, like the Wine Cork Bulletin Board and Fall Centerpiece Workshops - non-residents welcome! - and the September Open Water SCUBA class starts with orientation on August 27th. Check out www.RiverWinds.org for details and call 856-251-0990 to enroll.

Don't forget, we will be shutting down the entire Aquatic Facility next week for our annual maintenance. We plan to reopen on September 1st!

We are also still taking a limited number of non-resident membershps! You can check out www.RiverWinds.org for pass information and learn how YOU can become a member, too...but don't delay...there are only a few memberships still open, and we are anticipating the fall rush after school begins.

Finally, if you're a college student and looking for an incredible internship opportunity - and FREE use of the facility! - contact Mandee at 856-251-0990 x105. Use your motivation and creativity to work in management, exercise science, marketing, and more to glean one of the most comprehensive job experiences available!

As ever, do you have ideas for programs or workshops not offered? Give us a call at 856-251-0990 x103 and let us know.

Follow us on Twitter @RiverWinds and LIKE us on Facebook for up to the minute news and updates, too!

We'll see you at the facility!

Lazy, Hazy Days of Summer

We know, we know, we say it all the time...but where is this summer going?? August already? Our college-aged members and residents are already gearing up for the move back to the dorms, Moms and Dads are busy getting those school supplies, and we're loving seeing everyone unwind at RiverWinds after all the running around is over!

It's been a pretty busy summer at the 'Winds. Rentals are super busy in the pools and gyms, and Summer Rec has been enjoying the aquatic facility and rock wall every Tuesday and Thursday. TRX Workshops have been super popular, and the skill is gaining quite a fan base on the fitness floor. SCUBA classes have been popular and the Kids Fitness and Fun mini camp has been a blast!

August isn't slowing down, either...we still have a full compliment of Friday night concerts ahead. Don't forget, the facility is closing at 8:00 p.m. on those evenings until September! If you've missed a TRX demo, there's plenty of those scheduled, as well. Two great craft workshops are slated for this month, including the Wine Cork Bulletin Board and the Fall Wreath class, and these are open to the public: come one, come all! Discover SCUBA will be on the 16th, two more full Open Water SCUBA certs are starting or finishing this month, and the 15th is packed: Outdoor Movie Night, the Ice Cream Social, AND National Night Out...what a GREAT day for the family!

Have you been seeing the RiverWinds logo in your travels? Our marketing department has been in overdrive all summer getting word out to the county and beyond, touting our incredible birthday party packages, room rentals, and classes open to non-residents. If your business or office is interested in obtaining literature regarding these or other opportunities at RiverWinds, give us a shout at 856.251.0990 x103.

We're also still looking for interested candidates for our Fall Internship program. Amazing experience in a variety of fields AND free membership to the facility during your tenure! Call 856.251.0990 x105 for details and check out RiverWinds.org for details.

Don't forget to link up with us on Facebook and Twitter, too.

We look forward to seeing you and yours at the 'Winds this summer!
