The RiverWinds Community Center in West Deptford, New Jersey, the premier multi-purpose recreation facility in the Delaware Valley, offers a highly competitive, world class internship opportunity to local college and university upperclassmen and graduate students in order to provide a hands on experience in a number of different programs of study. RiverWinds is seeking to recruit and develop the finest individuals in their respective fields, foster professional development, and allow individuals to develop a wide range of skills within several related disciplines.
Each semester, two outstanding individuals in the fields of Fitness and Communications/Recreation Management are chosen from countless applicants to work alongside RiverWinds Community Center administration and assist in all aspects of facility operations and program management.  Interns will, among other tasks, complete a capstone project, from idea conception to program execution, during their semester of study.  Other responsibilities include budgeting, staffing, marketing, sales, and event planning. Interns will experience a multi-faceted view of small-business operations at all levels of management.
Applicants should be creative, innovative, and highly motivated, with outstanding oral and written abilities and exceptional organizational and people skills. A 2.5+ GPA is required. Candidates should exemplify the principles and discipline expected of an employee of a first class, multi-purpose recreational facility in approach, product, and results. Individuals seeking entry into the Internship Program must also demonstrate professionalism, a customer first attitude, enthusiasm, energy, and a willingness to work in both an independent and group setting.

While working, interns will enjoy free access to RiverWinds’ world class facilities; hard work will be balanced by enjoying all that the facility has to offer!
The internship is not paid, and applicants must be willing to work varied hours which may include nights, weekends, and holidays. College credit will be applied whenever possible as determined by individual college and university parameters.
Successful completion of our internship prepares individuals for careers in fitness and sports management, hotel, resort, or conference center operations management, marketing, communications, and public relations.
The RiverWinds Community Center intends to receive first class status as an internship provider for students seeking to gain work experience in a number of different fields, and is committed to proffer these opportunities to a diverse workforce.

Limited Number of Non-Resident Memberships Available May 1st

It's been a while since our last post, and that's because we've been SO busy here at the Community Center! Rentals have been booming, programs have been packed, and we've been busy getting summer activities on the calendar.

One of the most important new items added to our To-Do list was the addition of 250 Non-Resident Memberships. Starting May 1st, several Non-Resident Approved Groups will be able to apply for membership: employees of Gloucester County Emergency Services, the Sheriff's Department, and NJ State Police are all eligible for membership, as well as Gloucester County Seniors 55 and older. IN addition, we will also be accepting membership applications from current, consistent RiverWinds rental groups and from "sponsored families," which would be recommended by current members in good standing.

Memberships would be annual and must be paid in full at the time of processing.

If there is an increased demand following the initial 250, a waiting list will be employed.

If you're not sure if you qualify for our Non-Resident Approved Group memberships, please call Daytime Manager Cristin Veit at 856-251-0990 x104.

We've also been busy selling business memberships on the road, attending NuStar's Health Fair. We're looking forward to visiting Slack, Inc. in the coming weeks, as well. Let us know if you're interested in having a RiverWinds representative come to your West Deptford business to explain this outstanding opportunity!

On the calendar for this coming week is Parents' Night Out tonight, the 20th. The Kids Craft Workshop will be Wednesday at 6:30 p.m, and the Jewelry Making Workshop is Thursday at 7:00 p.m. Did you know non-residents can participate in the arts & crafts programs we offer, as well? Grab a friend or relative and bring them along!

We're also actively accepting applications for our Fall internship opportunity. Combine athletics, flexibility, creativity, marketing, and business and get...US! Email KernM@RiverWinds.org for details about this amazing program.

As always, we love hearing from our members and residents! Do you have an idea for a class or program that hasn't been offered? Let us know! Call 856-251-0990 and share your thoughts.

See you at the facility!

April Happenings...

We're well into Week 2 of Session 2, and the place is jumping! Two big programs began on Monday with Swim Lessons and the Let's Pretend Playgroup. Members and Residents were able to start their latest pool practice and are really soaking up their time with their groups and instructors. Private Lessons are still on the rise as youth and adults both can enjoy one-on-one instruction on days and times convenient for family schedules. Also, the Let's Pretend Playgroup almost sold out, as these toddlers started to explore social skills in an imaginative setting. What a great crowd with fun kids!

Today we hosted the Kid's Bunny Craft Workshop for kids three to six, where they made their own Peter Cottontail's, sure to be an Easter heirloom for generations.

Next on the schedule is the April Open Water SCUBA Certification, which begins with an orientation on Monday at 7:00 p.m. Sign up and get your adventure on!

Finally, we're delighted to share some community service projects: the National Honor society at West Deptford High School will be hosting Locks of Love on June 19th in the high school LGI starting at 1:00 p.m. Locks of Love provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children in the USA suffering from long-term hair loss. You can make your appointment to donate by contacting NHS Advisor Jodi Davis at JDavis@WDepford.K12.NJ.US.

Does your West Deptford Township civic organization have something to advertise, as well? Let us know, we're happy to help spread the word as the hub of all WD activity! Contact Aimee Boucher at MaskaA@RiverWinds.org with details.

Keep in mind that the facility will host regular hours on Friday, Saturday, and Monday, but will be closed on Sunday.

We look forward to seeing you and yours at the facility!
