We made it through Christmas! Whew! Time to enjoy the break between holidays and unwind a little. Vacuum up the last of the wrapping paper, clean the kitchen and wash the holiday dishes...just kidding! Come on down to the 'Winds and enjoy!
What a great place RiverWinds is to bring out-of-town family members. Show off your community and take them for a stroll on the track, a drink in the Senior Center, or a dip in the pool. It's 86 degrees in our Leisure Pool...and 100 in the Hot Tub! Honestly, if there's a better place than a Hot Tub to watch a snowfall, we haven't found it.
To sweeten the deal, we thought we'd offer some extra Water Slide and Rock Wall hours, too...today through Thursday, from noon to 3:00 p.m., enjoy the extended offerings!
Remember, we'll close at noon on Friday for New Year's Eve, and are closed on Saturday for New Year's Day. (Mummers, anyone?)
2010 is almost over...spend it with the Gang at RiverWinds, your place for Family, Fun, and Fitness!

Bone Marrow Drive
Join us in support of the National Marrow Donor Program!
FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 24, 2010 from 3:00 - 7:00 p.m. IN THE COMMUNITY ROOM
Every year, 10,000 Americans are diagnosed with life-threatening diseases, like leukemia, and their best or only hope of cure is with a transplant. About 70% of these patients DO NOT have a matching donor in their immediate family, meaning they depend on the NMDP “Be the Match Registry” to find an unrelated donor.
This is where we come in! Getting tested is EASY and PAINLESS, the inside of your cheek is swabbed so your tissue type can be determined. And that's it!
If you are a match for someone waiting for a transplant, the most common form of donating is through peripheral blood stem cells, which is a PAINLESS, NON-SURGICAL procedure! In a nutshell, for five days before the donation, the donor receives injections which will increase blood-forming cells. On the fifth day, the donor’s blood is removed through an IV in one arm and passed through a machine that separates out the blood-forming cells. The remaining blood is then placed back into the donor through a second IV in the other arm. This procedure takes about 4 hours and is done at a specialized hospital.
Just like a blood drive, some health conditions prevent volunteers from donating: HIV, AIDS or TB; asthma that requires regular use of oral medications; autoimmune diseases (lupus, MS, rheumatoid arthritis, etc); recent back surgery or severe or on-going back problems; cronic lung disease, cancer or diabetes requiring insulin; diseases that affect blood clotting of bleeding; being a past recipient of an organ transplant; current sleep apnea; heart disease or past heart attack; hepatitis or chronic kidney disease.
None of the above-mentioned conditions apply to you? Are you between the ages of 18-60?
Join us in growing the registry. You can save a life!
Questions? Call 856.251.0990 x103.

SCUBA Returns!
You've been waiting for it! SCUBA is back for 2010! We have more than a half dozen classes this year, with schedules to fit everyone's lifestyles.
Classes always begin with an orientation, where participants receive their Crew Pack and get prepped for an amazing experience! After the classroom lecture and confined dive classes have been completed, the instructor will help the new divers coordinate the two-day open dive required for certification completion.
Why is RiverWinds the best place to get certified? SO MANY REASONS! Registration is open to the public, and participants need NO prior SCUBA or snorkel experience. ALL gear is included in the cost of the class, a low cost of $301. Compare that to a dive shop! The ONLY additional cost is the check-out dive, which can be done at your convenience in a location of your choosing. No hidden fees here!
Participant swimming requirements include only the ability to tread/float in deep water for ten minutes, and complete a 200m swim with no time limit.
There is a twelve year age minimum, though private lessons available for those ten to eleven.

Happy New Year
Happy New Year!
2010 has started off wonderfully here at the RiverWinds Community Center. Our membership base is continuing to thrive as we have seen familiar faces renew right away this January and some new friends have chosen to make the 'Winds their home away from home.
Our January Pass is back for the 8th consecutive year, at an amazing low price of $19.99! All land and water group exercise classes are included for the entire month of January, and our patrons are using it! Other programs are in full gear, but we're most proud of our Live Master INSANITY class with none other than the master himself -- and creater of the amazingly popular INSANITY program -- Shaun T! He'll be here on Wednesday, January 13th at 6:30 p.m.
We're also hosting our bi-annual Blood Drive in the Community Room on February 5th, from 2:00 p.m. through 7:00 p.m. Appointments are encouraged but walk-in's are welcome! Health & Safety classes are back for Spring with a CPR/AED recert class on March 16th, and our outstanding Lifeguarding course will run March 11th through 14th. But don't delay your registrations...these classes fill FAST! Open to residents AND non-residents.
Stroke Mechanics for the Competitive Swimmer is back in the swim of things after the holidays, and the West Deptford High School Swim Team is making a splash in the pools this Winter season, too. Check the web for the updated schedule.
Feeling crafty? We're the place to be! Adults can "Pick-a-Piece" on January 14th, 20th, and 25th, with items like glassware, bisqueware, wreaths, and jewelry to choose from. Classes run 7:00 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. Not a resident? Not a problem! Our registrations are open to all! Got kids? Youth 6-12 can come by on January 6th, 14th, and 26th for ceramics, murals, and candymaking, respectively, from 7:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. Tinier tots aren't left out either: they can participate in the same craftables on the 7th, 13th, and 26th of January from 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.
If the weather is nasty and you're not sure if we're open, check our website or call 856.251.1410 for up-to-the-minute info. But rest assured...it takes more than a flurry or two to scare us!
Things are exciting as always at the 'Winds...so don't miss out. Need other info, or have questions about programs? Call 856.251.0990 and we'll help you out.

See you soon!
