Session 6, Week 6

Ho Ho Ho! We were so happy to see our local families at the Holiday Party on Friday night. From the choir to Little Theatre, Miss West Deptford representatives to Santa Clause, Christmas and Hanukkah were celebrated in style! Several members have posted their pictures to our Facebook...why not show off yours, too? Friend and Like us at RiverWinds Community-Center to tag us in your photos.

We were also overwhelmed with gratitude last week as the Mayor's Holiday Food and Toy drive concluded on the 9th. So many families will have a happier holiday thanks to your incredible generosity, and we're grateful to our residents for always being there to show their spirit and pride.

So what else is going on at RiverWinds? Well, we have several end-of-year classes on the schedule to keep your pulse racing...on 12/17, you can try the 2-Hour Holiday Spin ride with Nancy, starting at 8:00 a.m. On Christmas Eve, get your SHRED on with Chris at 9:00 a.m., with a little Barre thrown in for good measure! Try PILOXING for FREE on December 29th at 9:30 a.m. with Mandee or 6:30 p.m. with Diane, and New Years Eve can begin with some sweat, too: get a 3-Hour Spin with Nancy starting at 8:00 a.m. or Zumba your way into 2012 with Anna at 9:30 a.m. Use the rest of your 2011 Super Class Pass or pay the $6.00 One Time Class fee.

There's still time to enroll in Discover SCUBA on Thursday the 15th. If you're interested in SCUBA but don't want to commit to the Open Water certification just yet, "get your feet wet" with Discover SCUBA! This introduction to diving allows participants to get familiar with the equipment and feeling of breathing underwater all while under the careful supervision of a PADI certified SCUBA instructor.
A one time fee of $30.00 is payable prior to your participation, and the best part is that participants who participate in Discover SCUBA will receive a $25.00 discount on his or her check-out dive should he or she enroll in the Open Water certification course! Call 856-251-0990 to enroll.

Seniors, don't miss the AARP Driving Course on Wednesday, December 28th, from 9:00a.m. - 4:00 p.m. in Community Room C. AARP members pay only $12, while non-members are a bargain $14 per person. You can register today in person or over the phone and pay that day!

Our January Pass schedule begins on Monday, January 2nd and will run through February 4th. Flyers will be available at the Front Desk within the week. Remember to get your new Super Class Pass for next year, but participants can always pay the $6.00 One Time Class Fee, as well. The 2012 Programming Schedule will be posted soon...due to popular demand, starting with Session 1 in February, we will no longer utilize Free Weeks; 7-9 week Sessions will be employed. Check www.RiverWinds.org often for updates.

Are you following us on Twitter? Connect by searching @RiverWinds. Inclement weather updates will be posted there as the weather turns snowy.

Remember that the facility will close at noon on Christmas Eve and New Years Eve, and will be closed for Christmas Day and New Years Day. All other days boast regular hours.

That's it for our 2011 blogging...have a happy, healthy holiday season and a wonderful New Year! We'll be back the first week of January with updates, so make sure to add us to your feed.

All the best from the Gang at RiverWinds, your favorite place for Family, Fun, and Fitness!

Session 6, Week 5

Tis the season! Our lobby is dressed from head to toe in some amazing lights and garland, and we've been pleased to hear that so many of you enjoy our trimming of the halls. The weather is a little messy, but it's a little mild, too, so who's complaining?

We continue to prepare for our Holiday Celebration this Friday at 6:30 p.m. It's free, it's fun, and it's open to the public, so bring the family and enjoy some caroling, crafting, and Santa! Bring your cameras to take that treasured picture of Old Saint Nick.

So what else has been going on around RiverWinds, you might ask? Well, we're thrilled to announce our partnerships with West Chester University, Philadelphia University, Princeton University, Rutgers University, LaSalle University, University of Pennsylvania, Stockton University, Arcadia University, Rosemont College, Saint Joseph's University, and Ursinus University! We are an official internship for all of those schools and are excited to be partnered with so many outstanding schools. Does your school have a Career Services Center that we could connect with? Email us at MaskaA@RiverWinds.org to have your college or university added to our esteemed list, and in the mean time, check out www.RiverWinds.org for details regarding our prestigious internship program.

We finished up our 2011 Health & Safety classes this week, having certified six new lifeguards and a dozen new participants in CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer and Health Care Provider. The 2012 schedule has also been posted online, and we're already taking registrations for Spring lifeguarding classes. But don't delay! They sell out extraordinarily fast so reserve your spot today.

Our youth holiday craft project begins with a bang tonight, and our December SCUBA program started last night. The 2012 SCUBA schedule is another class already posted and available for sign up. We have some great ideas for Christmas presents, so stop by soon for those gift cards!

Also next week, remember Discover SCUBA on Thursday and Parents' Night Out on Friday: get those last shopping trips out of the way, and we'll help!

We'll be looking for you at RiverWinds, your place for Family, Fun, and Fitness!

Session 6, Week 4

This is the kind of fall weather we can all get behind, isn't it? We hope everyone is settled back into their routines this Monday-after-a-holiday-weekend, and trust that all of our members and guests had a wonderful Thanksgiving with loved ones. We loved seeing out-of-town relatives visiting their families at RiverWinds this weekend, which is what we're all about: family, fun, and fitness!

We're in the Christmas spirit now, though! Our decorations are up and the carols are on the radio...it's in the air, and we're so excited! The Mayor's Holiday Food and Toy drive is now in full swing, and we're planning some great things for the holiday celebration on the 12th at 6:30 p.m. Remember to put the date on your calendar and bring the family for our annual event!

This Thursday at 7:00 p.m. is our Ceramics Workshop, where you can try your hand at new painting glaze techniques. There will be assorted pieces like bowls, plates and vases to choose from, which can make a perfect personalized Christmas gift for that special someone. Likewise, on December 5th at 7:00 p.m., you can sign up for our Stenciling Workshop, making your own unique Christmas Cards or Thank You notes. Why buy when making is so much more fun? And as ever, our arts & crafts classes are open to the public, so you can bring a friend and pick-a-piece together!

Our CPR/AED course will be on Monday the 5th at 6:30 p.m., and you can get your Professional/Health Care Provider certification here. Likewise, we're looking forward to meeting our Lifeguarding class that starts on Thursday: they're in for four days of some intense aquatic education, and we can't wait to see how they do.

Remember that RiverWinds memberships, personal training packages, and Super Class Passes make a wonderful gift under the tree this year, so come on by and get a gift card to tuck away. We'll be looking for you!

We'll see you at the facility!

Session 6, Week 3

We did it again! We missed a week of blogging! Yikes! Our apologies once more...we've been super busy, and promise to be more on top of our blog in the future.

So what's been going on? So much! We've welcomed the West Deptford High School Swim Team back to the aquatic facility, and are looking forward to hosting their meets starting on December 6th. Check our website for a complete schedule.

We were invited to attend the Underwood Memorial Hospital Health Fair last week, as well. This was a wonderful event and we were excited to be able to sign up hospital employees for annual memberships right there on site.

Discover SCUBA returned on Thursday, and more participants continue to learn about SCUBA and all the sport has to offer. We've also just created our Spring 2012 schedule, posted online. Enrollments are open for these new classes, and many creative Santas are giving the certification as a Christmas gift! Enrollments are open to the public!

We hosted our Lets Pretend playgroup on Wednesday mornings to a great crowd of toddlers and their parents, and are excited to see them progress through the end of the year.

Looking ahead, we'll be stopping by local business Ossur next week to extend to them the extraordinary Business Membership opportunity, and can't wait to meet the employees there. We're also looking forward to hosting a ceramics workshop next Thursday evening. There's still space available, so sign up today, and remember, non-residents are welcome, too!

Finally, remember that RiverWinds is closed for Thanksgiving, but regular hours resume on Friday. Have a wonderful, happy, healthy holiday with your loved ones...and to all our local athletes competing in our West Deptford Thanksgiving Tournament, best of luck!

Session 6 Week 1

Wow, have we been busy! So busy we missed a week of blogging, and for that, you have our apologies. The facility was hopping last week and we barely had time to take a seat, but it was all to help bring fantastic programs to you!

Spookypalooza was, as expected, a phenomenal success. We were overwhelmed by the creativity and enthusiasm shown by our kids and their parents. What fantastic costumes! We posted a ton of pictures on our Facebook pages, but some of our favorite costumes were the Queen of Hearts, the washing machine, and the roller blading pickle. Thanks to the hundreds of participants who made our event another outstanding Halloween program!

Last week saw a wonderfully attended Senior Club meeting honoring our veterans. Vets from wars dating back to WWII were in proud attendance and we were honored to be able to host them. The Club also showcased a string band and the dancing was fantastic! Our 55+ crowd knows how to groove!

The West Deptford Historical Association showcased their new book, Images of America: West Deptford, last week, as well, and there was another amazing turn-out. Residents of all ages flocked to the book signing and learned some incredible facts about our town. Did you know that Eagle Point, current site of the Sunoco Refinery storage facility, once housed the world's largest ferris wheel at the time in an area known as Washington Park? Most of us didn't, either, until this amazing book debuted in our Community Room. We loved seeing so many people come enjoy our shared history.

We've just added our early 2012 SCUBA dates, as many people are calling for the referral program. It's wonderful hearing about so many residents and members who are planning on Caribbean trips for the new year, and dreaming of the warm weather as ours is starting to turn cold. Remember Discover SCUBA will be next Thursday the 17th, so sign up and reserve your spot now!

Kids are off from school this week - as you've surely noticed - so we've added some extra slide hours on Thursday and Friday from 12:30 p.m. - 2:30 p.m. Bring the children to RiverWinds to expend some of that energy usually reserved for recess and gym class!

Holiday hours are approaching: remember that the facility will be closed on Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, and New Years Day. We will have a noon closing on Christmas Eve and New Years Eve. All other days have normal hours, so come enjoy the fun!

Are you a college student that requires Internship hours to graduate? You're in luck: RiverWinds is developing an elite program for upperclassmen and graduate students, where college credits are earned and some amazing experience is gleaned in the process. Keep an eye out, as this opportunity is looking to be second to none.

We also enjoyed participating in AmeriSource's Health Fair last week, letting their employees know of the incredible membership opportunity afforded to them as business members. If your West Deptford company is interested in having one of our staff members come explain the opportunities available at RiverWinds, give us a call; we'd be happy to come on site and explain what the facility can offer.

The Mayor's Food and Toy Drive has begun, and your donations of non-perishable food items and unopened toys can be dropped off in our lobby during any open hours. Share in the season of giving and help your friends and neighbors who need it the most.

This is also the last week you can donate your used and worn sneakers for the Nike Reuse a Shoe recycling program. Get those old kicks out of the closet and go green...they'll be remade into any number of new materials, and stop junking up your floors in the process!

Session 6, Week 1 is now underway, so come enjoy your favorite classes or try a new one, get the kids in swim lessons, or participate in a great craft workshop. We've got it all!

We'll see you at RiverWinds, your place for Family, Fun, and Fitness!

Session 5 Week 6

We love the fall, there's so much going on and we're always happy to see our members and residents enjoying the facility.

Last week, we had another awesome Discover SCUBA course run on Thursday and it's so exciting to see how the clinic gets more popular each time. Participants were able to try out SCUBA without dedicating themselves to the whole course...yet! A great discount is available to those who take Discover and enroll in the Open Water class, and the November class is right around the corner. We're already seeing enrollees take advantage of that great opportunity.

The Oil Painting class on Tuesdays remains popular, and our artists are emerging with some real talent. Take a peek in the Arts & Crafts room and see some of the works in progress. You're guaranteed to be impressed.

Most excitingly, this is the week! Spookypalooza is back on Friday the 28th at 5:30 p.m., and we're working like crazy to bring you the best event yet! Bring the whole family and don't forget the costumes!

Next week is looking busy, too...the Images of America: West Deptford book release is set for Thursday the 3rd, as is the ceramics workshop. Check back with us next week for more exciting updates.

We're also still in need of daytime lifeguards. If you hold a current certification from an accredited agency, come in to submit an application!

Remember next week is the Free Week, too, and there's still plenty of time to get in on the $40 Super Class Pass, all the land and water group ex classes you can take for one low price!

Check out the pictures below from our first annual Fitness-a-Thon, a wonderful event to raise money for breast cancer research and have a great time, too.

Don't forget to follow us on Twitter @RiverWinds, and Friend or Like us on Facebook--join the RWCC Facebook group, too! Don't miss a single thing at your Community Center.

We'll see you at the facility, your place for Family, Fun, and Fitness!

Session 5 Week 5

Halfway thru October already? Sure, we're feeling fall at RiverWinds, excited about our current programs and looking forward to a holiday season that's just around the corner!

Our big event this past week was our first ever Fitness-a-Thon, where participants were able to enjoy a variety of classes from Yoga to INSANITY, with proceeds going to the Susan G Komen foundation. Getting in shape and supporting a great cause? Nothing better. We look forward hosting this amazing event annually and are grateful for our fantastic response!

We're looking forward to this week, too: Thursday has two great programs, starting with Discover SCUBA. If you're interested in SCUBA but don't want to commit to the Open Water certification just yet, "get your feet wet" with this introduction to diving, allowing participants to get familiar with the equipment and feeling of breathing underwater all while under the careful supervision of a PADI certified SCUBA instructor for only $30. Better yet, those who participate and elect to enroll in the Open Water certification will receive a $25 discount on a check out dive!

Also this Thursday is Kids Craft Night at 6:30 p.m. Kids 6-11 can create their own Super Hero Cape. Just in time for Halloween!

Everyone at RiverWinds is VERY excited for our annual Spookypalooza celebration. Games, prizes, food, and of course, the popular costume parade are all back and better than ever! Put Friday the 28th on the calendar, 5:30 p.m., and bring your family and friends, because this event is free!

Remember to follow us on Twitter @RiverWinds, and you can Friend or Like us on Facebook (join our group, too!). Don't forget to check our website at RiverWinds.org for all the details you're looking for.

We'll see you at the Community Center!

Session 5 Week 4

Now, this is the kind of fall weather we can all get behind! What a gorgeous weekend this was, and we saw our residents out and about by the truckload! RiverWinds Drive and the point were all bustling with activity as people - and their pets! - enjoyed October the way it's supposed to be enjoyed.

While walking around, no one can fail to notice the amazing Scarecrows on Parade that have cropped up since last week. We have some awesome residents with a real flair for the creative...come see what various township organizations had to offer on RiverWinds Drive!

We've secured November 3rd at 6:30 p.m. for the official unveiling of West Deptford's own book, authored by the township's Historical Associaiton. Join us in the Senior Center for the release and refreshments, and remember, you saw it here first!

Our Oil Painting class started last week, and we're already seeing some burgeoning artists emerge from the ranks. There's some real talent in town. We also started a new SCUBA class for the month, another great result of this warm weather. There's still time to jump into both, so give us a call at 856.251.0990 for more info!

Remember this week is Parents' Night Out, so if you haven't made your reservations yet, make them by Wednesday, as we need at 48-hour advance booking for your kids' night out!

Remember, as scout troops get back in the fall swing, RiverWinds offeres an unparalleled opportunity for advancement through our Merit Badge program, where Boy and Girl Scouts can earn badges and more with a certified Merit Badge Counselor. Call 856.251.0990 x103 for details.

Have a great week, and we'll see you at RiverWinds, your place for Family, Fun, and Fitness!

Session 5 Week 3

It's official: it's cold out! Already!

The mercury may have dropped last week, but we stayed busy here at RiverWinds. We experienced some technical difficulty early in the week as we had some website issues, but we had it fixed within a day and the surfing commenced. The Autism Walk was Saturday and, as ever, we had a great turn-out for a wonderful cause. The Italian Festival was Sunday, and the reviews were stellar from the food to the entertainment. The rain didn't help, but those Italians are troopers--some events were moved inside and the crowd followed.

The Masters Swim Program returned and moved to Wednesday and Friday mornings. Enrollment is still open to interested members!

We're looking forward to keeping busy this fall, as well. A couple big events on the horizon...Spookypalooza is scheduled for October 28th at 5:30 p.m., and we're already very excited for what it has to offer. RiverWinds is also the official location for the launch of West Deptford Township's own book, Images of America: West Deptford, authored by the West Deptford Historical Association. Proceeds benefit this non-profit organization, and the public can get their book on November 3rd at 6:30 p.m. Regular programs like Parents' Night Out, on October 14th, and Discover SCUBA, on October 20th, are on the calendar, and we're looking forward to both.

Classes remain busy, and we love hearing success stories from our members and residents. Lives are changing and we're proud to be a part of it!

Come see us at RiverWinds, your place for Family, Fun, and Fitness!

Session 5 Week 2

We're a little late on this week's blog post...you know how this time of year gets! (Why is that? Like we're not busy the other ten months of the year?)
Do not adjust your computers...our website is down. We're working with our host to ensure it's up and running as soon as possible. In the mean time, continue to check here, as well as our Facebook pages and Twitter feed, for all the updates you need.

Week 2 has seen so many people getting back into their favorite classes. We love seeing our members so excited to hit the Spin Room, Aerobics Studio, and pools. The Super Class Pass is still available for $40...all the land and water classes you can take for one low price. A steal and a half is what that is.

The Nike Reuse A Shoe program has also gotten an outstanding response. We all have those sneakers taking up space in our closets and cars, so the drop-box in the lobby has been accepting old kicks to be recycled into athletic surfaces and apparel! Check out www.nikereuseashoe.com for more information about this amazing opportunity, and a BIG thanks to everyone who has donated so far...we've gotten TONS of shoes, and we're not done yet!

We just finished up another PADI Open Water SCUBA certification last weekend, and because the requests are still coming in, we've added two more classes to the calendar. Call 856.251.0990 x103 to find out how you can still get your flipper on.

Keep watching for information about how you can get your signed copy of the new Images of America: West Deptford book dropping next month. See your family and friends immortalized in this international publication...we're so proud of our residents and contributers. Created a history, formed a present, and shaping our future, all within these 27 square miles. Impressive, folks!

Enjoy this last week of September 2011, and we'll see you at RiverWinds, your place for Family, Fun, and Fitness!

Session 5 Week 1

It's the first week of Session 5 here at RiverWinds, and we're psyched!

Last week, our Free Week, was another outstanding success. We had great numbers in our group exercise classes and we're looking forward to welcoming all those who recently purchased their Super Class Pass for only $40...all the land and water classes you can take through December 31st!

We debuted our first Discover SCUBA program last Thursday, and had a nice group experience SCUBA for the first time. The two and a half hour class was a great intro for anyone wishing to give it a try without the commitment of an entire Open Water certification...although those participants are able to receive a nice discount on their checkout dives, should they elect to take the whole course. Which several of our Discoverers are planning to complete! Our next Discover SCUBA class will be on October 20th at 6:30 p.m. Sign up for your chance to get your feet wet!

Parents' Night Out was also last Friday, and our participants loved watching the DVDs of their choice and munching on pizza while Mom and Dad were able to get away. Kids want to reserve their spot for next time? Register them today for our October 14th service.

Don't forget, there's so much for kids to do, starting this week. Our Crafts for Little Hands program, Let's Pretend toddler playgroup, and Clay for Kids workshop, and Kids Craft Night all start this week. Check out RiverWinds.org for more details!

And don't forget to hook up with us on social media, as well. Look for our tweets @RiverWinds, and we're all over Facebook: friend us, like us, and join our group so you don't miss a thing at RiverWinds, your place for Family, Fun, and Fitness!

Session 5 Free Week

School has started and we are really getting into the swing of Autumn now! This week begins the Free Week for Session 5, so check out the website for schedules of all your favorite classes, free of charge! Can't get that kind of deal anywhere else.

If you missed it, West Deptford Day was on Saturday, despite some lousy weather reports. Because of the soggy ground, the event was moved to the parking lot in front of Brandemarti Field -- and it was a rousing success! All of our civic organizations were on hand, from scouts to police to library to historical association, as well as our successful sports teams, Little Theatre representatives, and Tiny, Little, Teen, and Miss West Deptford. What a crowd!

As advertised, keep an eye out for the Images of America: West Deptford book to be published around Halloween, written by our own Historical Association. Signings will be available here at RiverWinds later this fall.

Also, want to participate in Scarecrows on Parade? The West Deptford Free Public Library hosts the annual contest for all organizations, groups, and individuals to create and decorate a scarecrow to be displayed on RiverWinds Drive for the month of October! Stop by to sign up or call 856.845.5593.

This week, Discover SCUBA is available this Thursday in the Lap Pool from 7:00 p.m - 9:00 p.m. Try out SCUBA without committing to the Open Water Certification...but we're confident you'll love it! Participants who complete Discover and go on to sign up for the whole cert will receive a discount on their open water check out dives.

This Thursday, residents and non-residents alike can also participate in our silk flower workshop, and come away with a lovely wreath or centerpiece. Bring a friend and get autumnal!

Parents stressed from the back to school rush? Look no further, because Parents' Night Out is back this Friday. From 6:30 p.m. - 9:30 p.m., members can leave their kids with our wonderful Child Care staff where they'll participate in a night of games, movies, and pizza, while Mom and Dad can get away from it all for a few hours. A 48-hour notice is required.

Have any great pictures of you and your family participating in any of the fabulous events at RiverWinds? Send us an email at MaskaA@RiverWinds.org and we'll share them with our followers!

Finally, a somber reflection on the ten year anniversary of September 11th. Our country and community were tested in ways rarely experienced, and as ever, West Deptford residents and beyond showed a strength and charity second to none. Let us keep that spirit in our daily lives and remember, we are all in this life together. USA and Eagle Pride!

Welcome, Fall

Where did summer go?

Here we are, after Labor Day, the unofficial start of fall. Teachers are back in school, and West Deptford kids go back tomorrow. School shopping is frenzied right now...parents and students both need a place to unwind. And that's where we come in!

The RiverWinds aquatic facility is open again after the annual five-day shut-down where the pools were drained and cleaned, the decks were painted, and the whole place got a good old once-over. It looks fantastic out there and we love that our members and residents have a place to swim even as the weather starts to cool off a bit. (And boy, has the mercury dipped these past few days!)

Next week is the Free Week for Session 5, but we have a limited number of group exercise classes running this week. In the water, our evening classes are still on, and there are many fitness classes still scheduled. Check the website for up-to-date schedules.

The Session 5 Program Book is almost done, and we anticipate it will be up on the web by the weekend. In the mean time, Swim Lesson schedules have been posted both on-line and at the front desk, and registrations are open for classes that start on the 19th.

Our new Discover SCUBA starts this month. On the 15th, try out SCUBA for a one-time $30 fee, and see what breathing underwater is all about! Get your feet wet without committing to the Open Water Certification course. But if you do like it (and we know you will!), you can sign up for our PADI certified course running on October 3rd, 9th, 16th, and 23rd. Boy Scouts also now have the option of getting their SCUBA Merit Badge at RiverWinds with an accredtied BSA Merit Badge counselor.

Put October 28th on the calendar because Spookypalooza is back! Games, prizes, snacks, the hugely popular costume parade...it's all here! Festivities start at 5:30 p.m.

Need health and safety certifications? Get your American Red Cross classes here: CPR/AED training on December 5th at 6:30 p.m., and Lifeguarding starts on December 1st.

Itching to get your hands dirty? Try our Arts & Crafts classes: make a fall wreath or centerpiece, try your hand at oil painting, take our ceramics workshop, or learn to make custom designed jewelry!

Kids aren't left out, either: toddlers can play pretend or take a craft class, all engineered to enhance motor skills and help learn to socialize. Kids 9+ can take a turn on the pottery wheel, and elementary schoolers can make a Super Hero Cape or a Color-Me Backpack. Finally, parents and children can all enjoy Parents' Night Out, a sitting service on the 3rd Friday or each month for members, where kids get three huors of movies, pizza, and games, while Mom and Dad enjoy a night out.

Want more information? Check the web for dates, times, and costs, or call 856-251-0990.

We look forward to seeing you at RiverWinds, your place for Family, Fun, and Fitness!

What a Week, Huh?

Well. Can we script a more dramatic week? First, an earthquake on Tuesday, and then a hurricane over the weekend? In New Jersey? Tis the stuff of legend...and some very weary residents. Luckily, West Deptford Township was spared the worst of nature's wrath last week, and our residents appear to be safe and sound with power and water. And enough milk, bread, and eggs to be living on french toast for quite some time. But we're extraordinarily grateful that we've made it through unscathed, and a comprehensive check of the RiverWinds Community Center on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday showed no damage at all.

Whew.

This did leave for some tense members, though, and our gym was packed to bursting on Monday as people flocked to the weight room and cardio machines to unwind after such an action packed few days. It was a great thing to see!

In other facility news, the main gyms have reopened after getting a fresh new coat on the floors, and they look shiny enough to eat on. Though we prefer you snack in the lobby! The pools are closed for the week, and our maintenance staff and even a few lifeguards are working diligently to make it sparkly and new...who needs a Caribbean resort when you have the RiverWinds pools right here? They'll take on any other pool and make a splash against them all. We anticipate a reopening this weekend.

Our STREETFest Concert Series closed out with the unfortunate overshadowing of Hurricane Irene last weekend, but the British Invasion band was a hit with all ages and still had a wonderful turnout in spite of the long lines at grocery and department stores as people raced to prep for any problems. There will be no concert this weekend but don't miss the summer close out on September 10th, with West Deptford Day and the concert and fireworks that evening.

The Free Week for Session 5 does not start until Monday the 12th, but some classes will still run next week. Sorry for the long link, but check http://riverwinds.org/index.asp?Type=B_BASIC&SEC={6320948A-641D-41E7-84F4-87BCE67638EF} for Fitness classes. All evening Water Exercise Classes will run next week, as well. Check RiverWinds.org for Session 5 schedules by next week, as well.

Finally, remember that we will close at noon on Monday the 5th for the Labor Day holiday (pools at 11:30 a.m.). Enjoy your long weekend!

See you at the facility,

Unfortunately, tonight's concert, Jeremiah Hunter, has been cancelled due to adverse weather. Stay dry, everyone, and we'll see you next week!

Ice Cream Social and Big Screen Movie at RiverWinds!

RiverWinds and Residents Partner to Support Our Troops!

We can't think of too many causes better than those that support our Armed Forces. And West Deptford residents seem to agree! TWO drives are being headquartered in the RiverWinds Lobby...read on!

Cub Scout Pack 296 is helping our troops call home by setting up a branch of Cell Phones for Soldiers. More than 150,000 troops are serving abroad, and Cell Phones for Soldiers is calling on all Americans to support them by donating old cell phones. Cell Phones for Soldiers hopes to collect over 50,000 no-longer used mobile devices this year. Proceeds will be used to purchase calling cards for our armed forces so they can stay connected with their families. Look into CellPhonesForSoldiers.com for details about the organization, or contact Cubmaster Nancy Barna at NancyBarna@verizon.net for information regarding Pack 296 and their quest to help.

Also, Cara Jankauskas is a local Girl Scout working to attain her Silver Award, the highest award given to Cadette scouters. For her requisite service project, she wishes to support our men and women serving overseas, as well, and is collecting snacks and toilettries that she can send abroad, in a dropbox in the lobby, which will be there until July 1st. Monetary donations can help offset the cost of shipping, as well, and sent to 364 Hessian Avenue, W. Deptford, NJ 08093.

RiverWinds is proud to help host both of these extraordinary drives, and proud of our local youth who continue to set a tremendous example for Americans everywhere.

2011 Session Changes

It might only be January, but at RiverWinds, we're looking at the whole of 2011 to see how we can best provide the greatest programs and events to our members...and we're starting with scheduling!

For the first time, Session 1 will include a Free Week, which will run from Sunday, February 6th thru Saturday February 12th. Adding this week, coupled with extending the January Pass thru February 5th, allows us to keep six week sessions throughout the year but eliminate very long breaks in programming in August and December.

Session 1 will officially start February 13th and extend thru March 26th.
The Free Week for Session 2 will be 3/27 - 4/2, and Session 2 will run from 4/3 thru 5/14.
The Free Week for Session 3 will be 5/15 - 5/21, and Session 3 will run from 5/22 thru 7/2.
We will have a week's break in programming the week of 4th of July, and resume with the Free Week for Sessin 4 from 7/10 - 7/16. Session 4 will run 7/17 thru 8/27, and classes will again suspend from 8/28 - 9/10, before Session 5 picks up with the Free Week from 9/11 - 9/17.
Session 5 will run from 9/18 thru 10/29.
Session 6 will start with a Free Week between 10/30 - 11/5, and then run 11/6 thru 12/17, when classes end for the year.

It is our hope that this new format will suit the schedules of our members so they can best maximize their time at the RiverWinds Community Center. Your place for Family, Fun, and Fitness!
